Gertie
If you’re looking for a casual breakfast in Williamsburg, Gertie Cafe is a good place to start. This all-day cafe serves morning, brunch, and nighttime fare. There’s also an outdoor patio.
The restaurant is named after its founders’ grandmother. They’ve created a menu of Jewish comfort foods with a Gertie twist. You can get egg and cheese sandwiches, house-made bagels, bialys, and more.
One of the best parts of this place is that it’s all-day counter service. So while it may not be a traditional New York diner, it’s a perfect place to grab a drink before or after work.
Golden Diner
If you’re looking for a breakfast food truck near you, the aptly titled Golden Diner is an option worth considering. It’s located in the Lower East Side, near Chinatown. Despite its storied pedigree, the restaurant is still a relative newcomer, but it hasn’t been shortchanged in the kitchen department.
The Golden Diner’s most impressive feat is maintaining a retro-inspired look, while at the same time meeting modern standards. For instance, the restaurant uses flat top grills to cook its food. This isn’t something that was commonplace a few decades ago.
CJ’s Cafe
If you’re looking for a meal that’s not too expensive, CJ’s Cafe has got you covered. They have a full breakfast menu, a lunch menu, and an early dinner menu that is bound to tickle your taste buds. Plus, they have a great customer service record. Their motto is “you’re welcome”.
There are a number of places to get your CJ’s fix, from the Taylor main lobby to the high-end restaurants in the neighboring neighborhoods. The best part is that you’ll probably never have to wait in line again.
Katalina’s
Katalina’s is an all day breakfast and brunch spot located in a 100-year-old gas station in Harrison West. While they do serve a few classic breakfast items, their specialty is their pancake balls. These fanciful creations are served with a variety of toppings, including Nutella, whipped cream, whipped honeycomb, and banana. The menu also features veggie sausages, huevos rancheros, and pancakes made from scratch.
For dessert, you can try a Nutella stuffed cookie that’s big enough to eat. Or you can make your own with a variety of nuts. You can also get your fill of delicious hot chocolate made from Thunderkiss Coffee, a locally roasted coffee company. Aside from the food, you can enjoy a quaint patio set on High Street. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy the sunshine during a hot summer afternoon.
Agi’s Counter
Agi’s Counter is a new eatery in Crown Heights, which serves Hungarian and Austrian dishes. Open since November, the restaurant has a unique, Hungarian-inspired interior design. It is a modern and hip space, with a soft color palette, bright lighting, and a “chef-y” diner atmosphere.
This new cafe serves a variety of brunch and lunch items, including sandwiches. Try the Leberkase breakfast sandwich, which features a thick pork pate, sweet pear mustard, and exploding over-easy egg. The savory dish pairs well with Thumpers sodas, made by the fourth-generation family-run Brooklyn Seltzer Boys.
La Lupe
La Lupe is a smallish counter service restaurant that opened about a month ago. The food is decent, the ambiance is pleasant, and the staff is friendly. Located near Myrtle Ave JMZ, the place is on the way to your destination of choice.
The restaurant is located right next to a subway stop and boasts enough room for a medium-sized group to get in on the action. It also has a happy hour from 3 to 7 on weekdays.
Tasi Cafe
Tasi Cafe is a breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant in the Short North. This family-friendly eatery serves up comfort food and a variety of fresh and seasonal dishes. The menu features sandwiches, burgers, soups, and salads, as well as coffee, tea, and adult beverages.
Tasi is a popular place among the neighborhood’s residents. It’s open all day, 7:00 am onward Monday through Saturday. But the cafe is best known for its breakfast, especially huevos rancheros.
Clinton Street Baking Company
It’s no secret that the Clinton Street Baking Company offers a good breakfast. Their menu is filled with classic American comfort food. From breakfast to supper, they are the one-stop shop for a quality meal. They also have a craft beer selection that is sure to satisfy.

E.A.T.
If you’re in the market for a tasty breakfast, you’ll be happy to hear that there are some slick sexy diners in town. You can even take your pick from the big names like Cafe Belge and the aforementioned E.A.T., the latter of which is probably a sexier proposition. Luckily, if you’re on the East Side, you’re in luck. With a bit of tinkering, you should be able to find a spot.
